Edgewater is often also called Andersonville. Over recent years, as people couldn't afford neighborhoods to the south like Lincoln Park and Lakeview, they moved north - to popular neighborhoods like Edgewater. The neighborhood to its east - Uptown, aka Sheridan Park - is much closer to the lake, a key attraction for recreation, yet residents has flocked to Edgewater too. There are lots of nice non-chain restaurants, bars and little shops lining Clark Street here.  The red line of the CTA runs north and south through the community along Broadway, making it a quick to work for Loop workers.

The relatively affordable housing makes it a magnet too. The buildings are largely vintage walk-up structures. The fancies houses in Edgewater cluster in a section called Lakewood-Balmoral, which is west of Broadway to Ashland (1150 to 1600 West) and from Foster to Bryn Mawr (5200 to 5600 West).  There is another nice section of houses called Edgewater Glen to the north of Lakewood-Balmoral.
